The 30th Anniversary Pokémon celebrations turned out to be just as exciting as fans had hoped, with the big reveal undoubtedly being details around Generation X, with the upcoming games titled Pokémon Winds & Waves.

Now given that we have all known about Pokémon Winds & Waves for a while now, thanks to the massive data breach at Game Freak in 2024, the big reveal was mostly about getting confirmation of the finer details.

One major part of that was the reveal of the three new starter ‘mons, in Browt, Pombon and Gecqua. The first look was meant with near-unanimous approval, with most agreeing that all three were pretty adorable, all things considered. That said, we didn’t get a look at what comes next, and it’s there that the true fate of the starters lies.

Pokémon Winds & Waves Has Great Starter ‘Mon

As we’ve already mentioned, the response to the original reveal of the starters was very positive, with the baby version of these creatures more than cute enough to pass initial grading from fans.

Browt is the little green bird, a Grass-type Pokémon who is based on a classic chick combined with a bean sprout (which is why you’ll find it categorized as the bean chick in the Pokédex).

The Fire-type representation this time around comes from Pombon, a small canine whose design is based on a real-world Pomeranian. Rounding out the three is Gecqua, a Water-type Pokémon whose design is based on the fat-tailed gecko, the knob-tailed gecko, or the crested gecko.

All three serve as great jumping off points for their potential evolutions, and fans are already hotly debating what those are going to look like.

The Final Forms Of These Pokémon Are Crucial

Over on Reddit, one dedicated fan put forward potential inspirations for the final forms of Gecqua, Pombon, and Browt. Those listed everything from frightening black roosters to the Komodo Dragon, and fans were desperate to share their own wants and wishes.

“I had a post about a black chicken on the main one, but deleted it, haha—great minds, and all. I thought saw a bird that had long “eyebrows” and I think Browt is going to take off of that mixed with Garuda,” one said.

“I see water/psychic, fire/fairy, grass/dark. Gecqua’s eye color is a hint for me. Also unfortunate if we get another grass/dark so soon, so I hope I’m wrong. Tbh I don’t want another grass/fighting either, and grass/flying seems boring,” another added.

A third was very keen on a fowl development, saying, “I will loose my damn mind if we get a proper looking chicken pokemon. I thought there was supposed to be one for Gen 9 from theories, but better luck this Gen I guess.”

The games are set to debut next year, so expect more Pokémon Winds & Waves reveals over the next year, as we get to grips with what will presumably be quite a few more entries in the Pokédex.
