President Donald Trump obtains a better rating for his hard line approach to immigration than due to his management of the economy, foreign policy or other issues, according to reuters/ipsos probes, while the Republican tries to increase arrests and deportations.
Around half of American respondents in recent polls approved Trump’s approach to immigration, compared to just over a third who thought he was doing a good job dealing with the high cost of life, the other big topic of his campaign for 2024.
The Americans have adopted a tougher vision of immigration since Trump first broke into the national political scene in 2015, and the latest results of the survey show that immigration is the issue in which he obtains his highest level of support, both between his republican base and among political independents.
The latest survey also showed that Americans were almost twice more likely to consider the economy as a main priority than immigration, in a potential warning signal for Trump.

Around 86% of Republicans approved Trump’s measures on immigration, while the support of Republicans to their approach to the cost of life was around 69%, according to the latest survey of Reuters/Ipsos, made between March 21 and 23.
Trump launched a wide campaign of repression after assuming the position on January 20, sending military troops to the border between the United States and Mexico and reassessing federal agents to help in the application of immigration laws.
His government has increased arrests and has opened new routes to deport immigrants, although deportations have been inferior to those of the previous president, Democrat Joe Biden.
The president has also signed up for legal immigration, trying to freeze the American refugee resettlement program and revoke visas and green cards of students who participated in proper protests. In an executive order, Trump tried to restrict automatic citizenship by birth right, which triggered a legal battle.
Since assuming the position, Trump’s general approval index has remained stable, with just under half of those surveyed by Reuters/Ipsos approving their performance as president, including 45% in the latest Reuters/Ipsos survey. This figure is superior to most of its first term and Biden’s.
