The head of government of the Canadian province of Ontario, Doug Ford, insisted this Wednesday that Mexico’s relationship with China is costing jobs in the United States and Canada, and that Mexican authorities have to decide whether they are with “Beijing or Washington.” .

Ford, who in the past has called for Mexico to be expelled from the USMCA, said that everyone he speaks to in the US, none of them have a problem with Canada.

“The problem is China, which is sending cheap components to Mexico and Mexico puts a label on them that says ‘Made in Mexico’ to send them to the United States and Canada, which costs American and Canadian jobs,” he declared at a press conference.

“It is unacceptable. Mexico has to decide. He is with Beijing or with Washington. “I can assure you that Canadians are with Washington,” he added.

Ford’s words come amid the controversy caused by Trump’s statements, threatening with tariffs on Canadian exports as well as annexing Canada using “the economic force” of the United States.

Trump’s statements have caused widespread rejection in Canada. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated on Tuesday that “never, ever” Canada will be part of the United States.

Ford also said that in February he will travel to Washington with other Canadian provincial heads of government to reinforce the message that Trump’s tariffs will harm the economies of the United States and Canada.

The head of the provincial government stated that Trudeau’s main job at the moment is to prevent the United States from imposing these tariffs.
