While the release of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War is an ideal excuse for viewers to revisit the TV show, it is unlikely that newcomers to the franchise will be lost if they stumble on the movie without watching the show first. Since Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War is getting a theatrical release, the spinoff will need a wide appeal.
In order to maximize the movie’s reach, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War will have to tell a story that makes sense to viewers who haven’t watched all four seasons of the show. As such, while re-watching Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is perfect preparation for Ghost War, it’s not a necessary step to enjoying the movie.
