Industrialists and cargo transporters warned that the possible resumption of blockades will affect commerce and tourism leaving for the end of the year holidays.
Road blockades have a direct impact on employment, competitiveness and the stability of economic activity, as well as on the well-being of the population in general, the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin) said in a statement.
“Road blockades are not a solution, since they generate negative impacts that transcend those who carry them out and affect third parties who are not part of the conflict,” he said.

According to the organization directed by Alejandro Malagón Barragán, the closure of communication routes causes severe effects on the transportation of goods, interrupts supply chains, increases logistics costs and puts the timely supply of essential goods at risk.
He added that the blockades harm people who are unable to travel to work centers, health centers, schools or other destinations.
He indicated that an open, institutional and permanent dialogue is needed, and that agreements be built that allow progress without generating collateral damage.
The National Chamber of Cargo Transportation (Canacar) stated that the blockades are foreign to institutional channels, and that they are not only ineffective in addressing any demand, but also constitute a direct impact on society, the national economy and the constitutional right to free transit.
He pointed out that the groups that promote and execute the blockades must assume responsibility for the economic, social and security consequences, including logistical delays, million-dollar losses, shortages of essential goods and damage to productive activity.
“The eventual reactivation of blockades is especially serious, as it coincides with the beginning of the December holidays, a period characterized by high mobility of people and goods throughout the national territory,” considered the body directed by Miguel Ángel Martínez.

He added that the paralysis of communication routes in this context would cause a scenario of general chaos, with negative impacts on road safety, tourism, commerce, services and on millions of families who will be prevented from reaching their destinations.
He said any deliberate disruption compromises the stability of the supply chain, even more so during a season of high demand.
“We make a specific call to the competent authorities to safeguard the rule of law, as well as to dissatisfied groups to follow the path of institutional dialogue and legality,” he indicated.
