Mexican beef exports to the United States registered an annual decrease of 7% when reaching 89,100 metric tons ™ until week 22 of the year, while cattle prices rise and the border between the two nations remains closed by the plague of the boreride worm.

According to the most recent report of the National Agricultural Council (CNA), from June 2 to 8, 2025, weekly beef exports to the US decreased by 3%, with a volume of 3,900 TM.

“In the annual accumulated, exports reach 89,100 TM, which is equivalent to a 7% reduction compared to the same period of 2024,” the report points out.

Meanwhile, the imports of fresh beef from the United States descended 8% in relation to the previous week, standing at 33,200 metric tons, in the middle of the border closure.

In the United States, the CNA indicated, the prices of cattle “remain firm upwards”, although the choice cut down slightly, “in a week in which, seasonally, a rebound is usually observed.”

The CNA suggested that the above could indicate that the market has already reached its seasonal peak with “a possible short -term decrease”, which could press the margins of the packers for the high cost of livestock and the weakening of meat prices.

On the other hand, he pointed out that national prices remain “stable, without drastic falls”, and the demand continues.

From the border closure decreed by the US almost a month ago, Mexico has stopped exporting about 5,700 heads of cattle per day, the president of the National Association of Federal Inspection Establishments (ANTIF), Alonso Fernández Flores, warned on Monday.

This represents commercial losses of more than 11 million dollars per day, said the president of Anetif.

However, the 75% reduction in the cases of the Cattle Barrencador worm has reactivated optimism in the Mexican meat industry before the imminent reopening of the border with the United States, which remains closed by Washington to Mexican cattle standing up for weeks.
