Juan Cortina Gallardo, president of the National Agricultural Council (CNA), assured that the lack of labor has worsened in the agri-food industry, which has not been able to find more than 6 million people to work in the avocado, berry and tomato fields. , as well as in tequila and other export products.

“Today in Mexico there are between 4 million and 6 million jobs, which are not being served and there are no people,” declared the businessman at the inauguration of the 21st edition of the Global Agri-Food Forum Innovating for Food Security.

According to the representative of the agri-food industry, for several days they have been working together with the federal government on a very ambitious plan for agricultural workers to stop any interest in American soil or migrating abroad.

“We are supporting this effort, because we are lacking manpower. We don’t want them to go to the other side (the United States), we want them to stay here with their families who have a much better standard of living and are well paid,” he expressed.

“President Claudia Sheinbaum proposes achieving shared prosperity by retaining agricultural laborers in Mexico, with the idea of ​​a win-win,” he added.

“Given the lack of labor, that is why we are concerned about the initiative to establish that only 40 hours be worked, because people want to work and have a better income,” he noted.

“The Mexican is a worker and the agri-food sector is experiencing a lack of labor,” he said.

“The labor force is lacking and we have to work to make them stay here in Mexico,” he recalled.

“The plan of the agri-food industry is to bring day laborers and workers into the formal sector, since “they have to have services and medical care, there has to be education for their children and there have to be decent places (where they live) that is, shelters.” , he added.
