The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco), together with the company Techtronic Industries, issued this Thursday an alert for the recall and repair of 9,014 pressure washers due to the risk of forced expulsion of parts, derived from the fact that the product’s condenser can overheat and burst.
In a statement, the agency, which defends consumer rights, noted that the situation affects more than 9,000 Ryobi brand pressure washers model RY142300 electric pressure 2300 PSI and model RY142711VNM electric pressure 2700 PSI.
Profeco warned that as a result of the failure there could be “serious injuries” to users.
However, the company stated that as of August 27 it had no reports of injuries or incidents in Mexico related to these washing machines, but “in the United States, 135 overheated condensers, 41 explosions and 32 cases of injuries were reported.”
Given this, Techtronic Industriales indicated that it will contact the owners via email to ask them to stop using the washing machines immediately.
He also asked potential owners to check https://www.ryobitools.com/pages/recall-pressure-washer if they are included in this recall.
Profeco noted that the supplier will send a repair kit with installation instructions and a replacement capacitor free of charge.
The company provided means of contact with users by calling 800 843 1111 and the website.
