MEXICO CITY.- The San Lázaro Human Rights Commission approved that access to socio-emotional support or psychological assistance animals cannot be denied to establishments, according to a note from the Quadratín Mexico news agency.

To deny access to this type of animals is considered as discrimination, according to the opinion approved by the Human Rights Commission.

The opinion was approved by 18 votes to establish that any natural or moral or private service is prohibited to deny access, permanence or service to people who require the accompaniment of a socio -emotional support animal or psychological assistance.

The initiative seeks to combat stigmatization and prejudice towards mental health and guarantee the rights of companions.

The regulations present argue that access to support animals not only improves the well -being of people in vulnerable situations, but also favors a more positive social perception regarding mental health.

Awareness is also made on the importance of promoting empathy and understanding, key elements to build a more inclusive and supportive society.

Through this reform, the obstacles that hinder people with socio -emotional support needs in their entirety their rights are sought.
