The purchase of electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) in Mexico grew 84% in 2024, with the latter being the most in demand, according to the Electro Mobility Association (EMA).

The organization reported in a statement that the units sold totaled 69,713, which it noted as a record.

Sales of hybrid units grew 155%, compared to the 37% expansion of electric cars.

He added that the park of zero-emission vehicles in the country is 107,633 units, almost in a similar proportion, 50.3% electric and 49.7% plug-in hybrids.

The charging infrastructure at the end of 2024 grew 5% compared to the third quarter and reached 45,055 connectors available in the country.

He detailed that public positions for direct loading, the service used mainly for
long journeys, grew 6.5% compared to the third quarter.

Meanwhile, private charging positions grew 5%, which are those located in homes, car dealerships and in company yards or parking lots.

Last year, 5 million electric car trips linked to private transportation platforms totaled 66 million 433,127 green kilometers. Additionally, members of the organization financed more than 5,399 electric and hybrid vehicles.

“Users and companies enthusiastic about electromobility demonstrated in 2024 that zero-emission transportation is rapidly being integrated into the culture of clean air in Mexico,” said Eugenio Grandio, president of EMA, according to the statement.

EMA was established in 2024 and associates 18 zero-emission vehicle brands and companies that develop and promote the clean mobility ecosystem.
