A gargantuan new supermarket lease in Jamaica, Queens, topped the list of last month’s largest retail leases within the five boroughs, followed by a pair of twin leases in Soho, with one apparel company moving to a new space, and another snapping up the square footage they left behind. Read on to find out just what new retail concepts are coming to the Big Apple.
1) SuperFresh | 166-20 90th Avenue | Jamaica | 22,500 sf
The supermarket chain signed a new lease in Jamaica, Queens. The new location will be inside a housing development known as Ruby Square. Hymie Dweck of Ripco Real Estate represented the tenant, while the landlord, BRP Companies, was represented in-house.
2) Lululemon | 524 Broadway | Soho | 19,000 sf
The athletic wear company signed a new lease in Soho, relocating from the nearby 520 Broadway. The lease taking over their old space is represented just a few placements down this list. Jeremy Ezra of Newmark represented Lululemon, while Steven Soutendijk of Cushman & Wakefield represented the building’s owner, Northwood Investors.
3) Amit Upadhyay | 622 Third Avenue | Grand Central | 17,000 sf
The restaurateur who operates 14 other restaurants throughout the United States, inked a new lease in the Grand Central building for a yet-to-be-named Indian restaurant. Emilian Derguti of Capstone Properties NY represented the tenant, while Marc Horowitz of Cohen Brothers Realty represented the landlord in-house alongside Adam Weinblatt, Jason Pruger and Jason Stein of Newmark.
4) Abercrombie & Fitch | 520 Broadway | Soho | 16,000 sf
The clothing retailer inked a new lease in the Soho building, moving into the very space Lululemon vacated for its new digs just a few spots higher on this list. Abercrombie & Fitch was represented by Erin Grace and Hilary Sievers at JLL. As with the 524 Broadway lease, Steven Soutendijk of Cushman & Wakefield represented the building’s owner, Northwood Investors.
5) Prime Liquidation | 2184 Clarendon Road | Flatbush | 12,000 sf
The bargain retailer inked a new lease in the Flatbush building. A 4-member KSR team including Eli Yadid and Jordan Soleimani represented both the tenant and the landlord, Joey Araman.
6) Calzedonia | 501 Broadway | Soho | 8,400 sf
The fashion brand inked a new lease in the Soho building. Jason Stein and Michael Paster of Newmark represented the tenant alongside Richard Johnson, Charlie Koniver and Gabriel Paisner of Odyssey Retail Advisors, while Joanne Podell and Michael Shalom of Cushman & Wakefield represented the landlord, Crane Partners.
7) Sephora | 1 St Marks Place | East Village | 7,800 sf
The cosmetics retailer inked a new lease in the East Village building. A team from Retail by MONA represented the tenant. The building’s landlord is REEC.
8) Pop Mart | 1540 Broadway | Times Square | 7,000 sf
The toy company signed a new lease in the Times Square building. The building’s landlord is Vornado Realty Trust.
9) Corner Bistro | 94 Avenue A | East Village | 6,000 sf
The burger restaurant signed a new lease in the East Village building. Joshua Singer and Nick Marshall of the Heller Organization represented the tenant, while Andrew Stern, Ravi Idnani and Julia Singer of Newmark represented the landlord, Penn South Capital.
10) From the Source | 315 Hudson Street | Soho | 5,900 sf
The furniture store signed a new lease in the Soho building. Brett Greenberg and Adam Rappaport of Jack Resnick & Sons represented the landlord in-house.
