The British Christian Horner, head of Red Bull, said this Friday that he shares the opinion that the Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez has of his 2024 season in Formula One, which the man from Guadalajara described last Thursday as “terrible.”
“Checo summed it up perfectly. It has been a bad year for him, he started strong, but then he had problems performing and his good moments have been sporadic,” he explained at the press conference prior to the Mexican Grand Prix race, this Sunday.
Horner noted that even though the Mexican, eighth in the world championship standings with five races remaining on the calendar, has not had a good season, he will be his driver next year.
“He is our driver and has a contract in 2025. Checo is competitive, he is hungry and he is not happy with his current performance. As a team we do what is necessary to support him and this is an important weekend for him, with a lot of support from his compatriots.”
Along with the quality that Horner knows that Pérez has, the manager trusts that the improvements that have been made to his car will help him end this Sunday the fast of 14 races in which the Mexican has not entered the podium.
“We know what he is capable of and we hope that we can give him the confidence with the improvements to his car so that he can have the type of performances that we know he is capable of,” said Horner.
