The president of the United States House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, criticized this Wednesday the choice of Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl intermission and proposed country singer Lee Greenwood, whose music is usually played at Donald Trump’s rallies, in his place.

“I didn’t even know who Bad Bunny was, but it seems like a terrible decision to me,” Johnson said when asked by a reporter in the halls of Congress.

The legislator considered that the artist “does not attract a wide audience” like that of the Super Bowl, an event in which, he recalled, “there are many eyes on it,” including those of the youngest.

Johnson suggested that a more appropriate choice would have been Greenwood, author of the patriotic song “God Bless the USA,” which has become the unofficial anthem of the Republicans and the Trump movement.

His opinion coincides with that of Trump himself, who claimed to have never heard of Bad Bunny and described his choice as “absolutely ridiculous.”

The Puerto Rican’s designation as the main artist of the Super Bowl, which will be held on February 7 in Santa Clara (California), has generated criticism among Republican leaders, who criticize that his music is in Spanish.

Bad Bunny, known for his critical stance against Trump’s immigration policies, will make history by becoming the first Latin artist to perform solo at the Super Bowl halftime show.

Shortly after the NFL’s announcement, one of the advisors to the Department of Homeland Security, Corey Lewandowski, stated that the Government would deploy Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during the event.

However, the White House later clarified that there are no plans to carry out immigration raids during the Super Bowl.

Last Saturday, the musician responded to criticism about his participation during his monologue as guest host of the program “Saturday Night Live” (NBC), in which he addressed the audience with some phrases in Spanish.

“If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn,” he said.
