It has officially been a week since the latest Resident Evil entry, Resident Evil Requiem, was released and despite garnering a myriad of positive reviews, Capcom also has other reasons to celebrate. After all, 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the first ever Resident Evil entry, which launched on the PlayStation back in 1996. Since then, the beloved horror franchise has gone on to welcome multiple mainline entries and spinoffs, making itself a household name in the process.
Now, to celebrate its 30th anniversary, Capcom has announced its plans for throughout the year and if you are a hardcore Resident Evil fan, you will want to stick around to find out more.
Resident Evil Is Headed Back To Raccoon City… Again
Although the special occasion Resident Evil event will take place on 22 March, Capcom has already teased fans about what they can expect from the 30th anniversary celebrations in a recent spotlight showcase. Announcements kicked off with the news that Resident Evil Requiem would be collaborating with Universal Studios Japan to expand the Resident Evil universe. Allowing fans to get immersed in the world “like never before”, the large-scale project will arrive some time in 2026, but for now, further details are scarce.
Capcom also announced a new arcade light gun Bandai Namco unit, which is based on Resident Evil 2 specifically. Titled Resident Evil 2: Arcade, players will be able to take down hordes of enemies whilst experiencing “air jets and floor vibration technology” which will allow them to feel as though they are really in the moment, and most importantly, “feel the fear“. The test launch for Resident Evil 2: Arcade will begin in Japan later this month.
Before Capcom’s final, and perhaps most exciting announcement, the studio also revealed that it would be hosting a 30th anniversary concert titled “Symphony of Legacy”, which I think is quite fitting. Tickets for the tour are now on sale, and with shows taking place all over the world, this one will not be limited to Japan.
However, it was Capcom’s last announcement that was the most exciting, as it revealed the arrival of the Resident Evil Generation Pack. Available until 31 March, this pack is available for the Nintendo Switch 2 and includes Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Gold Edition, Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, and Resident Evil Requiem. It also includes multiple DLC including cosmetics, survival packs, soundtracks, and more, and it is available for just £84.99. Considering that Resident Evil Requiem is just a week old, this deal is not one to scoff at, but you had better hurry as it ends later this month.
With Capcom’s main event taking place on 22 March, this is just a teaser of what fans can expect from the main celebrations. Put simply, there is never a better time to be a Resident Evil fan.
