Resident Evil Requiem hasn’t even been out for two weeks, but plenty of fans are already eager for more. Resident Evil narratives are rarely especially long, and now that many players have reached the credits, they’re itching for the story to continue. Luckily, the director of Resident Evil Requiem has some good news.
Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi revealed that a story expansion is officially in development for the game, as shared on the official Resident Evil X account. In the same video, he shared that a photo mode will be coming soon, and a mini-game is set to arrive in a May update. The story expansion, meanwhile, “will take some time.”
Resident Evil Requiem Is Getting A Story Expansion
It Could Be Time To Explain The Ring
So far, there are no details as to what to expect from the story update, but Nakanishi appears to be thoroughly aware of some fan hopes. Before revealing the expansion’s development, he flips through a few gag sheets of paper, the first of which focuses on the mysterious wedding suggested by Leon S. Kennedy’s ring in Requiem. Another shows a version of Resident Evil 7‘s card game DLC featuring Requiem‘s Victor Gideon.
It doesn’t seem like the DLC will actually focus on Leon’s wedding, but it could still provide an answer to the unsolved mystery of his spouse. Resident Evil 4‘s Separate Ways DLC focused on Ada Wong, a long-time love interest for Leon, and Requiem has the perfect opportunity to do the same. On the other hand, it’s equally possible that a DLC could explore more of Grace’s side of the story or pivot in another direction altogether.
Mercenaries Might Be On The Way
The Gift That Keeps On Giving
As for the announced mini-game, a return of Resident Evil‘s iconic Mercenaries mode seems likely. Introduced in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, The Mercenaries focuses more on arcade action than full-scale survival horror. A Requiem version could feature playable characters like Leon, Sherry, Zeno, and Hunk, as Grace’s lack of action skills makes her an unlikely candidate.
It’s no surprise that Capcom has major additions to Resident Evil Requiem in the works, but it’s nice to get official confirmation that they’re on the way. The release window for the expansion remains a mystery, and looking at past release schedules doesn’t clarify matters much. It took Resident Evil Village well over a year to receive its major expansion, while the Separate Ways DLC launched only a few months after Resident Evil 4. Either way, we should have a lot to look forward to.
