Russia requested explanations to the United States on Friday after the threat of sanctions and military actions of the vice president of that country, JD Vance, in case Moscow does not accept an agreement on the end of the war in Ukraine.
“This is a new element and posture that we had not heard before. We expect additional explanations during the next contacts, ”said Russian presidency spokesman Dmitri Peskov, at his daily telephone press conference.
The Kremlin representative thus responded to statements from the US vice president to the newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) in which he said that “continues on the table” the option to press Russia with sanctions and “even military actions” if Moscow does not negotiate bona fide.
“There are economic tools to exert influence, of course there are military tools to exert influence,” said Vance.

JD Vance will meet with Zelenski after Munich Security Conference
These are hard statements that contrast with those of the Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, who on Wednesday suggested that the United States would not deploy military forces in Ukraine and that the eve of the beginning of the direct contacts between representatives of Russia and the EU took place in The Munich Security Conference (Germany).
Vance plans to speak Friday at the Munich Security Conference, where he will also meet with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski.
The presidents of the US, Donald Trump, and Russia, Vladimir Putin, agreed in a telephone conversation held on February 12 to initiate negotiations for the arrangement of the conflict in Ukraine.
