Julio Berdegué Sacristán, Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, assured that the agri-food industry has its doors open to continue working to strengthen and maintain Mexico as the seventh largest exporter in the world and the ninth largest food producer.

“We will always have the doors open of the Ministry of Agriculture, the president invites us to govern by dialogue, listening and seeking to build food sovereignty,” said the official during the 21st edition of the Global Agri-Food Forum Innovating for Food Security.

“Today we are working on the agenda, but above all we are working on the agenda for tomorrow and the future,” commented the person in charge of the agricultural and livestock agenda of the government of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

“Mexico needs a much more prosperous, more productive, more sustainable countryside, and with more well-being always, always,” declared the Secretary of Agriculture.

Currently there are 2 million agricultural producers, livestock farmers, fishermen, and aquaculturists in Mexico, he noted.

In 95% of the municipalities of this country, food is generated every day, “but producers often appear invisible in scientific and technical discourses.”

He added that Mexico is the ninth world producer of food and the seventh exporter on the planet.

“We are a great food power and the government’s commitment is to maintain and strengthen the position,” he declared.

At this moment, Mexico has great development opportunities in the world, since there is a growing demand for food and “in our country there is a growing demand for food, there is more well-being and there is more prosperity,” said Julio Berdegué Sacristán.
