Sally Beauty is reducing its office footprint and shifting its longtime headquarters to a corporate relocation hotspot in Plano.

The Fortune 1000 beauty retailer, which has struggled with financial headwinds, inked a deal to move 600 employees into a 140,000-square-foot space in Legacy West after 40 years in Denton, the Dallas Business Journal reported.

Sally Beauty plans to complete the HQ move by the end of the year.

The company will take space in Liberty Mutual’s building at 7900 Windrose Avenue off Headquarters Drive, joining major corporate neighbors like Toyota, PepsiCo/Frito-Lay, J.P. Morgan Chase and, soon, KFC, which announced its HQ relocation from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano’s Corporate Drive last month.

While Denton officials explored incentives to keep the retailer in town, the city ultimately lost the bid to Plano, which didn’t appear to offer financial incentives for the relocation.

Plano Economic Development Director Doug McDonald called the move a win for Legacy West, touting the area’s walkability, amenities and appeal to major corporations.

Sally Beauty has faced years of financial struggles, leading to layoffs, store closures and leadership changes to stay profitable. It reported $3.27 billion in sales in 2024, a 0.3 percent decline from 2023, and recently paid off $41 million in debt while repurchasing $10 million in shares, according to its first quarter earnings report.

The company sold its 23-acre Denton HQ for $45 million last year after selling off its  114,000-square-foot distribution building and 13.3 acres at 3900 Morse St. for $12 million to Denton County in 2019.

In Dallas, 3 million square feet of office space was leased last quarter, according to a report from Savills. Office leasing jumped 18 percent between 2023 and 2024; some of that activity is attributed to corporate relocations.
