The Tax Administration Service (SAT) rejected that the reform to the Federal Tax Code regarding digital platforms has the purpose of digital espionage.

The collecting body asserted that it does not seek to monitor platform users, but that the modification is focused only on the tax information of the apps regarding VAT.

He maintained that the objective is to make collection in the sector more efficient and combat tax evasion.

“At no time is it established that the SAT will be able to access user information or the activity they have on the platforms, much less does it include purposes of surveillance of people, as they want us to believe,” he indicated in an information card.

He added that the reform establishes in article 30-B of the Federal Tax Code, that platforms must allow tax authorities online and real-time access only to the information that allows them to verify due compliance with tax obligations, which exists in their systems or records.

The SAT reiterated its commitment to people’s rights to freedom and privacy.
