Researchers in the field of paleontology claim the importance of Romance languages, including Spanish, in dinosaurs research.
This is one of the issues that focuses the World Congress “The Romance Languages and Dinosaurs. A revolution in science”, which is held between May 13 and 16 at the International Research Center of the Spanish Language (Cilengua), in the Monastery of Yuso de San Millán de la Cogolla (La Rioja, northern Spain), declared heritage of humanity for being the cradle of Spanish.
Experts in the field of Paleontology will address the necessary rescue of the quotes and scientific publications on this subject in Romance languages and, specifically, in Spanish, he explained on Monday, in a note, the University of La Rioja (UR), organizer of the Congress together with the Rioja government.
The inaugural conference “Free languages, dominant languages, languages for science and culture, of the Rioja for the world” will pronounce this Tuesday Giuseppe Leonardi, paleontologist specialized in icnology and animal behavior based on their footprints.
In addition to Spanish, Congress will highlight the use of the sister languages of those countries that have deposits and publications on dinosaurs, such as Argentina, France, Italy, Brazil and Romania.

The problem that underlies the celebration of the Congress is “the one inherent in the abandonment of the aforementioned languages, both in meetings and forums and in publications of long -experience scientific journals forced to disappear by the monopoly of certain editorial groups,” says the note the paleontologist Félix Pérez Lorente.
According to him, the impact indices, which in many cases are the exclusive measures of the quality of the scientific content of the articles, lead, as a consequence, “the abandonment of references to magazines of great tradition, which are losing weight as time passes.”
