The United States Government will allow Mexico to supply oil to Cuba, despite President Donald Trump’s threats to leave Havana without crude oil, according to Energy Secretary Chris Wright during an interview with CBS.
Wright said that the policy of the United States is to “allow” Mexico to continue bringing oil to Cuba, according to what the official told CBS News, a network that assures that another official also supports this statement.
The secretary’s statements come after Trump said on Sunday on his social networks that “there will be no more oil or money for Cuba: zero.”

According to an official cited by CBS under anonymity, the United States administration would not be looking for Cuba to collapse without oil, but hopes that it “abandons its communist system.”
Amid the tensions, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel assured that there are currently no conversations with the Trump government, except for contacts related to immigration issues.
After the capture of the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, Cuba was exposed to an imminent negative effect due to the brake on bilateral relations with the South American country.
President Claudia Sheinbaum previously said that her government is ready to be the “best vehicle of communication” between the United States and Cuba.
