The US Sheriff Service is providing security to the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., according to an email seen by Reuters on Wednesday, in what Fuentes described as an unusual arrangement.
The agreement was announced in an email on February 12, in which the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of HHS said it was reducing its protection service operations. The mail said that Attorney General Pam Bondi would organize security for Kennedy in the future.
“After more than four decades providing personal protection to the Secretary and other high -ranking officials of HHS when necessary, both nationally and internationally, through a pandemic and other obstacles, the OI protection operations are coming to an end,” wrote Christian Schrank, general sub -inspector for research in the HHS OIG.
A sheriff spokesman sent the questions to the Department of Justice. Bondi, in a statement, confirmed the agreement.

“My friend, Secretary Kennedy, is a valuable and respected leader in President Trump’s cabinet, who will receive adequate security protection,” Bondi said.
An HHS OIG spokesman declined to comment.
The Sheriff Service, which has about 3,900 federal agents, acts as the execution arm of the federal judicial system.
Its agents protect judges and judicial buildings, and the agency is also responsible for housing and transporting prisoners and administering the sale of assets seized in criminal confiscation procedures.
Sometimes you are asked to provide security to people involved in judicial or congressional procedures, such as witnesses, prosecutors and judges who may be facing threats.
The attorney general is also authorized to assign agents to provide security to other officials, such as the Secretaries of the Cabinet.
During Trump’s first mandate, the Secretary of Education, Betsy Devos, received a detail of protection from the bailiffs.
The assignment to protect Kennedy is at the same time as the sheriff service also faces increased responsibilities. It is one of the many security agencies that the Department of National Security has delegated to attend with the execution of immigration laws, an area that is not historically part of the area of the Department of Justice.

Two people familiar with the matter told Reuters that the HHS IGE ceased its protection detail in part due to the time and personnel involved in providing security 24 hours to Kennedy.
Kennedy travels frequently and has multiple properties, including in Los Angeles, New York and Boston’s outskirts.
