The Michoacán Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of seven bodyguards for their “probable” participation in the murder of the mayor of the municipality of Uruapan, which occurred on November 1 during a public event for the Day of the Dead.

In a publication on social networks, the State Prosecutor’s Office reported that the detention of these seven public servants is due to the possible commission of a crime of homicide by omission, and that all of them will be transferred to the ‘Lic.’ Penitentiary Center. David Franco Rodríguez’ and will be placed at the disposal of the Control Judge.

According to local media, the detained workers were Carlos Manzo’s bodyguards who provided him with personal security.

Members of the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Ministry of Defense and members of the Mexican National Guard participated in the operation.

These arrests occur on the same day that an alleged mastermind of the crime, identified as Jorge Antonio ‘N’, alias ‘El Licensed’, entered prison after being arrested last Wednesday, also in the state of Michoacán.

‘El Licensed’ was taken to the maximum security prison El Altiplano, in the State of Mexico (center of the country).

He is accused of being one of the masterminds of the murder of Manzo, shot dead in a crime that has generated a wave of indignation throughout the country.

When announcing the arrest on Wednesday, the head of the SSPC, Omar García Harfuch, confirmed that Manzo’s murder is linked to a criminal group in the area related to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).

According to the State Prosecutor’s Office, investigations indicate that three men participated in the direct attack: the subject who shot and was killed at the scene, and two others who carried out “monitoring and logistical tasks”, who were found dead on November 10.

The material authors of the crime were identified as Víctor Manuel ‘N’, Fernando Josué ‘N’ and Ramiro ‘N’, respectively.
