President Claudia Sheinbaum said Friday that the exhibition “Mesoamerican Women, Mexican Governors” will take to Spain so that the Spanish people know the wealth and greatness of their country before the conquest, amid the requests for forgiveness and cause bilateral tension .

“We want to take Spain, we want those who live in Spain to know wealth and greatness before the Spaniards came, before our country invaded our country,” said the president during her morning press conference.

The ruler said that she works with the Mexican ambassador to Spain, Quirino Ordaz, and that “it is important to claim our roots. So, we want to take that to Spain ”, in addition to remarking that 2025 is dedicated to indigenous women in Mexico.

Exhibition seeks Spain to forgive indigenous peoples

He also said that the exhibition, which will be presented in September at the House of Mexico in Spain, in Madrid, has to do with the forgiveness requested by the Mexican government from the Spanish State for the native peoples.

“We claim it and continue requesting it. And a way to show the greatness of the cultures that lived here, of the civilizations, which occupied our territory and that continue present to this day, because it is to bring that knowledge to Spain, ”he said.

Since last December, Sheinbaum said he will insist that Spain calls for forgiveness for the abuses of the conquest in 2025, when the 700 years of the foundation of Tenochtitlán, the ancient city of the Mexican Empire will be commemorated.

The ruler, who caused controversy for not inviting King Felipe VI to her investiture on October 1, said that she will maintain this request during her six years of mandate, the same requirement that began with former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) .
