President Claudia Sheinbaum said Tuesday that there should be a formal complaint about the confession of the drug trafficker Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada, who during her trial in the United States said that for decades so fueled Mexican politicians and military.

“Well, there should be a complaint. That is, because you can say this issue (which corrupted), but who gave money to?

Sheinbaum’s reaction occurs after Monday, Zambada declared himself guilty during his trial in the US in which he admitted that he participated in acts of corruption with Mexican authorities, including elements of the army.

Zambada, who was accused of a total of 17 positions, acknowledged having led a criminal organization – the Sinaloa cartel – continuously from January 1989 to January 2024 and having conspired by virtue of the rich law (Law of Corrupt Organizations and influenced by organized crime), due to its participation in money laundering, murders and kidnappings related to narcotrafficking.

Although journalists insisted Sheinbaum about a statement regarding the declaration of guilt by the capo, the president suggested to the press investigate to know which characters Zambada refers to.

He also stressed that Terry Cole, director of Administration for Drug Control (DEA), put “at the same level” to Zambada already Genaro García Luna, former secretary of Security in the government of Felipe Calderón, as a drug trafficker to which the United States government arrested.

“What caught my attention the most yesterday was what the director of the DEA said: ‘We have demolished three great drug traffickers: the first, García Luna; the second, El Chapo; the third, the May,’ on May. ‘

The US authorities expect May to provide useful information in their fight against drug trafficking in exchange for prison benefits as a cooperation agreement between the parties.

However, Sheinbaum said Monday that Zambada’s statements were not concerned, since any drug dealer statement would have to go through evidence.

Zambada was arrested in July last year after landing at Santa Teresa Airport (New Mexico, EU) on a plane with Joaquín Guzmán López, one of the children of El Chapo, who, according to May, held a trap to take him to the United States and deliver it to the authorities.
