President Claudia Sheinbaum stated this Tuesday that between today and tomorrow communication will begin between Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente and the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to discuss issues such as migration and collaboration.
“We are already in communication, whether today or tomorrow, to begin the bilateral conversations that are essential with the arrival of President Trump to be able to establish, and all communication, respectful dialogue between our countries,” the president said during his morning press conference.
Sheinbaum assured that, among other things, he asked De la Fuente to express Mexico’s position on the immigration issue, especially in paying attention to the causes and investing in supporting people who have to emigrate out of necessity.
“(In addition) respect for our sovereignty and coordination and collaboration with the United States government on different issues in a relationship of equals,” he said.
Shienbaum announced the beginning of this communication just one day after the inauguration of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, who during his inauguration announced the issuance of various decrees, including the declaration of Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations and his intention of a mass deportation of undocumented immigrants.

Mexico is prepared to receive returnees
During the morning conference, the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, presented in an expanded manner the “Mexico embraces you” plan, focused on receiving Mexicans who could be repatriated as the US president intends.
The main objective, he said, is to provide immediate support and facilitate the social and economic reintegration of deportees.
“We all know that migrants are not criminals and now the Mexican government is ready to receive them with open arms,” he emphasized.
He recalled that with this strategy, Mexicans who are deported from the United States will be guaranteed access to a variety of services that will help them satisfy their basic needs and facilitate their reintegration.
Among the actions will be the delivery of a card with 2,000 pesos to cover their immediate expenses and transportation to their communities of origin, as well as access to welfare programs such as scholarships, pensions, support for women and educational programs.
Likewise, they will be given access to the services of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), which include medical, pharmaceutical and hospital care, as well as disability and old-age benefits, as well as support for obtaining identification documents such as the Clave Única. of Population Registry (CURP).
Rodríguez pointed out that in the 11 repatriation points that are located throughout the northern border, Mexicans will be able to access food services, water, medical assistance and guidance on different government supports.
The program will be carried out in several border states such as Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas. In addition, it will be extended to other entities such as Chiapas, Guerrero and Jalisco.
