MEXICO CITY, (EFE) .- President Claudia Sheinbaum reported Thursday that the breakage of a platform duct towards the two mouths of Pemex, in Tabasco coasts, caused a spill of about 300 barrels of oil and that the company attended and is “in the cleaning process.”
“It is a duct of a platform towards two mouths. It is a duct that is many years old, it is one of the 70s and is already being repaired,” Sheinbaum said at his daily press conference.
The president said that there were “some leaks and at the time the escape was detected, a shield was put on, a clamp to reduce it, there was another leak, another clamp put himself and are in the cleaning process.”

According to Sheinbaum, the calculation of the spill was “around 300 barrels and are in the cleaning process”, in addition to “the fishermen of the place (which were affected) have been seen and they are being treated.”
Local media indicated that the hydrocarbon spill occurred in a protected natural area and stopped the activity of about 1,500 fishermen.
In a statement Pemex reported that he attended two leaks in a pipeline that transports oil from the AKAL-C platform to the two mouth maritime terminal (TMDB) “with the installation of two metal clamps; the preparations for the verification of hermeticity and operation of the duct are currently carried out.”
He informed that after making “a mapping, it was detected that a part of the volume of oil of the leak arrived at the coast of the maritime terminal Dos Bocas in the municipality of Paraíso, Tabasco, in an extension of 7 kilometers.”
Therefore, “immediately, PEMEX specialized staff and team carried out cleaning, which is expected to end in the next few hours.”
He explained that in these actions it has been dialogued with fishermen’s communities to establish prevention measures “to reactive their productive activity as soon as possible.”
Pemex said the event was notified to the Security, Energy and Environment Agency of the Ministry of Environment with the objective of implementing the corresponding remediation actions.
