President Claudia Sheinbaum announced this Wednesday the creation of the Regional Economic Development and Relocation Advisory Council that will collaborate, among other things, during the review of the USMCA with the US and Canada.

The Regional Economic Development and Relocation Advisory Council, Sheinbaum said, will work together with the SE, SHCP, Sener, Sader and Sedatu, to build the “Mexico Plan”, “which is very advanced and will allow us a development plan for our country of private investment and regional development.”

“We have been working for many months on this council that we are doing with regional development and relocation businessmen linked to the CCE, with other chambers of the private sector. It is not just another piece of advice, but we already have work developed that has to do with the poles of well-being, if you remember we worked on it and presented it from the campaign, which is the regional development of the Country based on its productive vocations, natural resources that they have, of the infrastructure that we are going to develop, of the schools that we are going to propose, of the homes that we are going to build.

“And, at the same time, in these well-being centers, the 100 industrial parks that already have a location, their vocation, they already have entrepreneurs who are going to develop them, we have already spoken with CFE, they are part of the roads that we are going to develop; That is, it is a comprehensive plan for the country. The work that this council is going to develop with the Secretariats is to promote the different projects in the country that are part of what we call the ‘Mexico Plan’, Sheinbaum detailed in a morning conference.

Altagracia Gómez, coordinator of the Business Council of the federal government, explained at the National Palace that the Advisory Council will be made up of 15 businessmen and that it will seek to take advantage of Mexico’s moment in the world through the relocation of companies.

“The conviction remains that it is Mexico’s moment in the world and women’s moment in Mexico, and in that sense the relocation of companies, nearshoring as we want to call it, is a great opportunity in Mexico to break the cycle below of low growth, but also of reproduction of inequalities that historically has been a great challenge and that is now a huge opportunity for the country,” he explained.

Altagracia Gómez added that the Advisory Council will address industrial policy issues with the aim of making private investments and, in addition, will advise the government during the review of the USMCA.

“The council has two fundamental areas, landing the national relocation strategy and making private investments concrete, for this there are 10 proposals that will be made on industrial policy issues. And, of course, we will be in the next room for the USMCA review. They are important because in these things we need to have a position from the Country, we need to be united between the company, the Government, and academia and, of course, there are many benefits if we manage to do it and we are going to achieve it very well,” he assured.
