President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed on Tuesday that she did not sign an agreement to share biometric data with the United States or promised “shielding” with military the border with Central America during her meeting with Kristi Noem, the US secretary of National Security, last Friday in the Mexican capital.

Although Noem affirmed Fox News on Monday that he gave Sheinbaum “a list of things that President (Donald) Trump would love to see,” the president said she only signed the renewal of a memorandum of understanding, agreed in July 2022, to share information between the customs agencies of both countries.

“In the case of biometric data, I explained to the secretary that in the case of Mexico we do not have a biometric data identity and that, in any case, that would have to be part of a work table, so the second agreement was not signed,” said the ruler at her morning conference.

The president reacted to Noem’s statements, who revealed Monday that at Friday’s meeting he asked to reinforce the border with Guatemala and share biometric data of migrants and travelers with the US authorities.

The secretary also pointed out the need to scan the shipments that arrive in the United States by air and verify with Mexico criminal records.

Sheinbaum says that ‘there are better ways’ to address migration

Given these statements, Sheinbaum said she argued “that the best way, not to shield, but to address migration at the southern border is to make a development pole between Guatemala and Mexico.”

The president, who seeks to build two industrial centers in Tapachula, the largest city of the southern border, and extend the intero -cylinder train to Guatemala, considered that “that would be the best way, better that to have soldiers throughout the southern border.”

“In any case, we work in the humanitarian rescue of migrants throughout the national territory and we explain this policy that we have been developing for a long time, that in addition to preventing people from arriving in the north, to be treated in our territory,” he said.

The dialogue occurs on the eve of the new commercial measures of Trump, who has threatened to impose 25% tariffs on all products in Mexico and Canada if the traffic of fentanyl and migrants that enters the United States is not reduced.

“We must always repeat it because you cannot forget, that we coordinate but we do not subordinate, that we collaborate, and also that the president responds to a single authority and that is called: the people of Mexico,” Sheinbaum reaffirmed now.
