President Claudia Sheinbaum guaranteed this Tuesday that her Government will carry out a “comprehensive repair” of the damage to the victims and relatives of the derailment of a train on the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in Oaxaca, which left 13 dead and almost a hundred injured.
“Evidently there will be a comprehensive repair of the damage if the family members decide,” said the president during her morning press conference.
The president, who visited the people who remain hospitalized on Monday afternoon, pointed out that so far a first support of 30,000 pesos (about $1,670) has been granted to the families of those affected, but she guaranteed that there will be “a comprehensive repair of the damage” as determined by the insurer and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
“Everyone will be supported, both the people who were hospitalized or who are still hospitalized and the people who unfortunately lost a loved one,” he noted.
Likewise, he added that investigations are already underway to clarify the causes of the accident.
“They are with the experts specialized in each topic so that they can do their expert opinion, extracting the information from the black box that the admiral reported yesterday and they, for their part, will be providing the information,” he said.

36 people remain hospitalized after derailment in Oaxaca
For his part, the general director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, reported that 36 people remain hospitalized after the accident, and assured that there is medical follow-up and permanent support for both the injured and the families of the deceased.
He detailed that 11 people are in IMSS hospitals, mainly Salina Cruz and Coatzacoalcos, 14 people in IMSS-Bienestar hospitals in Salina Cruz and Oaxaca, seven people are being treated in ISSSTE hospitals (Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers), mainly in Tehuantepec and Mexico City.
The incident occurred on Sunday in a section of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, one of the strategic projects of the Mexican Government to connect the Pacific and Atlantic oceans through a railway, port and industrial network that crosses the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz (southern of the country).
The Interoceanic Corridor has been presented by the federal Executive as a logistical alternative to the Panama Canal and as a development pole for the south-southeast of the country, although it has also faced challenges related to infrastructure, security and opposition from some communities.
According to Semar, the accident occurred near the Zapotec community Nizanda, on line Z of the “Istmeño” train, on the Salina Cruz–Coatzacoalcos route, in Oaxaca.
Line Z, inaugurated in 2023, runs from Veracruz (Atlántico) to Salina Cruz (Oaxaca) and is 212 kilometers long.
