President Claudia Sheinbaum described this Wednesday as an “injustice” the violent detention of a Mexican migrant, made last weekend by the Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE), within the framework of the raids that are already three weeks in the United States.

“It’s unfair, everything is an injustice,” said the president during her morning press conference.

The president emphasized that Mexicans and Mexicans living in the United States and, in general migrants, are people who went to that country out of necessity and “have contributed to the United States, their whole life.”

Sheinbaum thus referred to the arrest last weekend by Narciso Barranco, a Mexican migrant who was arrested and beaten by ICE authorities outside his work in Orange County, in California.

The arrest of Barranco, a gardening worker and father of three American children – a veteran and two active marines – went viral after social networks circulated images of his violent arrest.

In the videos you can see several armed and hooded men, who stop man and submit him violently, which unleashed criticism of Internet users for the excess of force that agents used to stop him.

“Imagine, the children of this person are even part of the United States Army. Then, we will continue to defend our brothers and sisters there,” Sheinbaum said.

He also said that the Mexican consulate came into contact with Barranco immediately to assist it.

Celebrate Diego Luna’s speech

The president also took the opportunity to recognize the monologue of Mexican actor Diego Luna, who during the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ program harshly criticized the migratory policies of US President Donald Trump, who labeled “authoritarian.”

“It says precisely this: that Mexicans who live particularly in Los Angeles are millions of Mexicans and Mexicans who have given their lives so that the United States is what it is and the city of Los Angeles is what it is,” he said.

He insisted that his government will defend Mexicans in the US through their consulates and reiterated that the nationals have to be recognized.

“We have said that Mexicans have to be recognized there, that we do not agree with the raids, that migrants are not criminals, that they are a person who committed some crime, because it acts, but the millions and millions of Mexicans are not criminals, they are heroes and heroines,” he settled.

According to data from the US government obtained by CBS News, ICE has arrested around 59 thousand people in facilities throughout the country, of which almost half (47%) lack criminal records and less than 30% have been convicted of crimes.
