President Claudia Sheinbaum questioned on Tuesday the prognosis of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) of a recession in Mexico in 2025 for the tariffs of the United States president, Donald Trump.

“You have to wait, it does not help these organisms say: ‘We foresee that maybe it is possible that there is a recession.’

Sheinbaum reacted to the report ‘How to navigate in the uncertainty’ of the OECD, which on Monday foresaw a decrease in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Mexico 1.3% in 2025 and 0.6% in 2026 under the case of generalized Trump tariffs from April 2.

The growth of Mexico’s GDP in 2024 was 1.5%, but the imposition of new tariffs and political and commercial uncertainty have weakened their perspectives for 2025 of this and other organizations.

But, before validating these forecasts, the president asked to wait to see what happens on April 2, the new date to begin the generalized tariffs of 25% to all Mexican products in the United States after having achieved two monthly pauses since February.

“Obviously, we always read the international situation derived in effect of tariffs by the United States government and other international issues,” Sheinbaum clarified.
