President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Thursday that next Monday she will receive the new US ambassador, Ronald Johnson, who will deliver her credential letters along with other diplomatic representatives from different countries in the National Palace.
“It will not be a very long meeting, (it will be) a brief meeting. And then of talk, of coordination, collaboration, relationship that we consider that there must be between commercial partners, neighbors, friendly countries,” said the president.
At the moment, he ruled out that during the meeting he will address with Johnson the issue of the recent controversy around the US negotiation with the drug trafficker Ovidio Guzmán, to protect relatives from the boss or immigration issues.
“There will be other opportunities for Chancellor himself, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, can continue to gather (with Johnson),” Sheinbaum added.
Johnson will assume the position that is vacant since the departure of Ken Salazar, who was the ambassador during the administration of Joe Biden (2021-2025) and who starred in some disagreements with the Mexican governments of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) and the current president.

Assumption of Johnson occurs after assumption of clandestine laboratories by US in Mexico
His arrival causes expectation in Mexico because his previous diplomatic position was as an ambassador to El Salvador (2019-2021) during the first presidency of Donald Trump (2017-2021), when there was an approach with the Nayib Bukele government, one of the greatest allies of the US president in Latin America.
In addition, the new American representative has 20 years of experience at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and before was a soldier of the US Special Forces, known as “Green Boina”.
The Assumption of Johnson’s position occurs after the Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE) presumed that on Wednesday three clandestine laboratories of drug production in Sinaloa were dismantled, in an operation headed by a unit of Mexican elements certified by themselves.
The incident was denied by President Sheinbaum, who said that the disseminated image “is false” and denied that US agents are in the country to support operations against drug posters.
