President Claudia Sheinbaum stated this Friday that she will defend her political “project” at the G20 meeting in Brazil, where she will suggest allocating 1% of arms spending to combat poverty and defend women’s rights.

“We are going to defend what our project represents, and also to propose, for example, what would happen if 1% of arms spending was allocated to serving the neediest in the world, and we are proud of the cultural power that we already represent.” show the results that exist in Mexico,” he said in a conference.

Sheinbaum’s participation in Rio de Janeiro on November 18, his first trip abroad since taking office on October 1, causes expectations after his predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024), never attended his mandate to the G20 or to almost any international forum.

“That is what we are going to present to the G20 with great pride, for what Mexico represents in the world today, and also to demand the rights of women, and how Mexico has advanced in all this, so that is the position Before, in fact, there was a relationship of subordination, of bowing one’s head,” he said.

The Mexican Foreign Minister, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, indicated that the country is interested in “aspects of gender equality, sustainable development, some elements of culture being addressed with sufficient clarity, and that the digital agenda be promoted, which has been another issue that “Mexico has been interested in the field of artificial intelligence.”

The diplomat maintained that, “so far, President Sheinbaum’s presence has generated great expectations,” which is why there are requests for bilateral meetings with Canada, China, Korea, France, India, Indonesia, Japan and the United Kingdom.

He also highlighted that Sheinbaum “is the only woman” head of Government or State who has confirmed her presence, for the moment.

The Mexican leader had questioned her attendance because the date is too close to the Day of the Mexican Revolution, which is celebrated on November 20 and in which she will preside over the commemorations.

De la Fuente highlighted that the host, the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, reiterated in a “very personal way” during Sheinbaum’s inauguration his interest in the president’s attendance at the G20.

“He will be there for one day, but it is a very intense day of work that he has, he will participate in two plenary sessions on the first day, the opening one, which is precisely about the fight against hunger and poverty, and another the afternoon that will be about the reform of global governance institutions,” said the chancellor.
