The remittances barely fought the policies of Donald Trump, president of the United States, since according to the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) they had an increase of 0.6 percent in the first 2025 bimester.
“In the first 2025 bimester, the value of remittance revenue was 9 thousand 119 million dollars, a slightly larger than 9,068 million dollars observed in the same period of 2024,” said the Central Bank.
Remittances are key in the livelihood, purchases and payments of families in Mexico for several years, according to Kantar, 49.8 percent of households are destined for the acquisition of consumer products such as food, drinks and inputs of the home.
And another 37.7 percent use the money sent by their relatives in the United States for the payment of services such as water, light and internet.
They also use money for the payment of tuition and debts, purchase of school supplies, books, clothing and footwear, even allocate resources for the remodeling and maintenance of the home and acquisition of
of appliances, refrigerators, stoves and washing machines.
According to Banxico, in the first bimester of the government of Joe Biden, who arrived in power in January 2021, remittances by Mexican workers with jobs in the United States increased more than 21 percent. While between January and February of Donald Trump’s first term, remittances rose more than 7 percent.
This first bimester of the Donald Trump government is given a moderate rise compared to the two past administrations of the government in the United States.
During the first two months of 2025, 98.8 percent of the total revenue from remittances was made through electronic transfers, adding 9 thousand 008 million dollars, said Banxico.
Remittances made in cash and species and the Money Orders respectively represented 0.9 percent and 0.3 percent of the total amount, by exhibiting levels of 85 and 25 million dollars, in the same order.
Remittances for remittances were 197 million dollars in the first two -month period of 2025, amount of less than 218 million dollars reported in the same period of 2024 and which implied an annual setback of 9.9 percent.
