Miami (EFE) .- A shooting at Florida State University, in Tallahassee left two dead and seven more injured people who were transferred to hospitals, including the shooter, authorities reported.

At a press conference, the State Capital Police confirmed that two people died in the shooting and that fatal victims would not be students of the university. Likewise, the institution said that six more people were injured.

Phoenix Ikner, a 20 -year -old student at the University, was identified as the alleged shooter. The young man is injured in a hospital, after facing the authorities.

The University, which has more than 40,000 students, issued an active shooter alert, after noon this Thursday, which activated the response team in these cases. Three and a half hours after the academic institution declared the campus as insurance.

Social networks images showed armed agents looking for the shooter in university buildings. The authorities created a code for students locked in the classrooms to report that they were sure.

In a phone call to NBC News, Daniella Streety, a student of the University, declared: “I saw how they took a student in what looked like a stretcher and kept it on the street until an ambulance could pick it up.”

“Just in front of me there is a building about 15 meters from the window … there was also an injured student there and they had to transport it in a desk chair to the street and then be transferred by ambulance,” added the student.

President Donald Trump told reporters in the oval office that the shooting “is a shame and it is horrible that this kind of thing will happen.”

The Governor of Florida, Republican Ron Desantis, warned in the X network that the authorities were “actively” to the situation and that he prayed for the victims.

The president of the Florida representatives, Daniel Pérez, described the incident as “terrifying and the worst nightmare of any father.”

All schools and schools in the County of León, where the state capital is located, are closed for this day, according to school authorities.
