One major streaming issue has weighed down several sci-fi shows on Apple TV, but Silo season 4’s latest production update fixes the problem.

It has officially been confirmed after season 3, Silo season 4, too, has wrapped filming. Silo season 3 does not have an official release date yet, but the last two installments of the hit Apple TV sci-fi show were filmed back-to-back. Back-to-back filming of two consecutive seasons is not unheard of, but it will seemingly have some interesting implications for Silo.

While only time will tell why the show’s next two seasons were filmed back-to-back, the filming schedule might eventually rectify a concerning streaming trend.

Many TV shows these days, especially the ones belonging to the sci-fi genre, often leave long gaps between seasons. Apple TV is particularly infamous for this, because some of its best sci-fi shows, like Severance, have taken the same route. Silo season 3 has also taken quite some time to come out, and it still does not have a confirmed release date, even though its release window has been revealed to be Summer 2026.

Fortunately, though, it looks like viewers will not have to wait too long for Silo season 4 to premiere after the Apple TV sci-fi show’s season 3 ends its run.

Silo season 3’s filming officially wrapped in May 2023, suggesting that it would be in the latter stage of its post-production right now. Now that season 4’s filming has also ended, its post-production will start soon and pave the way for it to release soon after season 3. Unlike most modern sci-fi shows that leave far more than a year’s gap between each season, Silo might finally break the trend.

Although no official announcements surrounding Silo‘s future release schedule have been made yet, the back-to-back filming of the upcoming seasons promises that, for once, a show will not be weighed down by slowed or delayed productions.

Silo season 2 had its own set of pacing and character development issues, even though it eventually made up for them in its final episodes. The back-to-back filming does not guarantee the upcoming installments will be free from season 2’s problems, but it at least allows the series to maintain a better sense of continuity and narrative momentum.

Reduced Waiting Time Between Silo’s Seasons 3 & 4 Makes Its Future Even More Exciting

The main Silo series is set to end its run with four seasons. Owing to this, its next two chapters will be its last. Interestingly, Silo season 2’s ending aligns with that of the first book, Wool, in the original Hugh Howey trilogy. It took the Apple TV series two seasons to cover the storyline from the first Silo book.

The show adds many new story threads to the original narrative, which explains why it could not take the one-book-per-season approach. Moving forward, though, Silo will not have a choice. Since it has two books worth of storytelling to cover and only two remaining seasons, it will have to adapt one book per installment.

This could benefit the series and allow it to have a more quick-paced and taut storytelling, which is something season 2 lacked almost throughout its runtime. At the same time, however, covering so much narrative ground in two seasons could also escalate into chaos and make the show’s upcoming installments hard to follow.

While only time will tell how Silo‘s seasons 3 and 4 will turn out, the suggested reduced time between their release ensures that the overarching storyline will seamlessly transition from the penultimate season to the final one. The show will not risk losing its massive fan base by making viewers wait several years to see how its biggest mysteries and character arcs conclude.

A quicker turnaround would mean that Apple TV‘s Silo will feel more cohesive in its last two installments and ultimately deliver an ending that feels both conclusive and well-rounded.
