The Italian Jannik Sinner, number 1 in the world, said Friday after tracing the game against the American Tommy Paul (1-6, 6-0 and 6-3) that, in the final of the 1,000 Masters in Rome, where Carlos Alcaraz will be measured, he must play his “best tennis”.
“Every moment is crucial. I am very happy to be in the final. If I want to win on Sunday I have to play my best tennis because Carlos played today (against Musetti) an incredible tennis,” said the Italian tennis player as soon as he concluded the match in which he suffered especially during the first half hour, which lasted the first set.
“I can play better at tennis. Today it was important only to win, in the final I must play an incredible tennis,” he insisted.
Sinner suffered during the first half hour of the game: “Yesterday (against Casper Rud) I felt very good in the countryside and today I found myself after half an hour. Every day they are different, it’s the beautiful sport,” he said.
On possible physical discomfort during the game, Sinner explained that he has a “little blister” under the foot that “did not allow him to move well” and that he felt Friday more than in the previous days.
“It doesn’t worry me, just bothers a little. There are no excuses, with adrenaline there will be a lot of energy and on Sunday I will not be worried,” he concluded.
Sinner also had words of thanks to the Italian public, who promoted him in the most difficult moments of the clash: “I got here wanting to do two or three games and I find myself in the final, it is incredible,” he said.

Alcaraz wins Sinner individual confrontation: six wins for four losses
The Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, who recovered the number 2 in the world, will be measured in the final of the 1,000 Masters from Rome to the Italian Jannik Sinner, number 1 of the world, against which the individual confrontation with six victories wins in the ten games they have played.

The rest of Alcaraz victories were in Indian Wells semifinals, in 2024 (1-6, 6-3 and 6-2) and 2023 (7-6 (4) and 6-3); in the quarterfinals of the United States Open, in 2022 (6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-7 (0), 7-5 and 6-3); and in the Masters 1,000 of Paris, in 2021 (7-6 (1) and 7-5).
Sinner’s were, in addition to Umag’s, in the sixteenth of Wimbledon 2022 (6-1, 6-4, 6-7 (8) and 6-3); in the semifinals of Miami Masters 1,000 in 2023 (6-7 (4), 6-4 and 6-2) and in the semifinal of the 2023 Beijing Masters (7-6 (4) and 6-1).
“Sinner would play at home, he knows how to deal with that. He has a very complicated challenge against Tommy Paul. We are going to see how he takes place. But being in Rome people want to be in the final and have that game,” Alcaraz said at a press conference this Friday Alcaraz, after his match against Lorenzo Musetti and prior to the Sinner-Paul duel.
The Italian suffered to win Paul, because he had to trace a first overwhelming set of the American (1-6, 6-0 and 6-3), but reached the final on his return after the three-month sanction he agreed with the World Anti-Doping Association (AMA) for his positive in closteol in Indian Wells 2024.
“The times we have played are complicated. But, at the same time, I enjoy them. If it is against Jannik I will have to be clear about the strategy, deal with its level and the public,” added the Murcian.
