Mexico City, (EFE) .- The complicated financial situation that Pemex is going through “finding a solution” so that the company “is in a better position”, for example that the private ones produce more barrels of crude oil, said Carlos Slim.
“Because Pemex is not paying suppliers and producers, the companies have stopped projects and leave. You have to find a solution for Pemex to be in a better position,” he said within the framework of the Engineer’s Day, which is celebrated on July 1, in a forum organized by the Mexican Union of Engineers Associations (UMAI).
“You have to invest more in production than in exploration, and that the private ones produce more oil barrels to improve the Pemex situation,” added the billionaire.

On June 19, President Claudia Sheinbaum ruled out a possible unemployment of suppliers of the energy sector announced this week due to the accumulated debts of Pemex, as the company has already paid 147,000 million pesos.

According to the AMESPAC, the accumulated debts of Pemex already exceed 404,000 million pesos in the first quarter of 2025.
In this period Pemex lost 43,329 million pesos, while the total net financial debt rose 0.4% compared to the closure of 2024 to 93,363 million dollars.
In his speech at the forum, Carlos Slim also spoke of the situation of CFE and said that Mexico has a lot of infrastructure delay, but we have more delicate problems, such as the financial situation of the CFE and the brake on private investment in the electrical sector. “

At the beginning of February, the CFE announced that it would invest about 28,940 million dollars in household generation, transmission and electrification projects during Sheinbaum administration.
