The proposal of the Government of Claudia Sheinbaum to reimburse 1% of the US tax on cash remittances is a bad idea, says the National Alliance of Small Merchants (ANPEC).
“The measure announced by the Mexican government to pretend to reimburse that 1% with the mountain money is not the solution to the problem. The reimbursement is the same resource, the public money of all Mexicans; it is a bad idea,” said the leader of the organization, Cuauhtémoc Rivera.
ANPEC said that although the tax approved in the US is less than the originally raised is ungrateful to celebrate it, since the simple fact of having approved this collection “is unworthy and an offense to the
Mexican workers ”.
The agency described the Remittance Tax as an illegitimate measure on an income derived from the honest work of millions of Mexicans working in the United States.
