Gerardo Cleto López Becerra, president of the Council for the Development of Small Trade and the Family Business (Concomerciopequeño), said that the “protest tourism” of the CNTE causes a 40 percent drop in sales for a day of demonstrations and closure of roads, so it is difficult to pay the rent, suppliers, salaries, operating expenses and taxes.
“The country’s economy is not for groups such as CNTE to practice protest tourism,” said the business leader.
He indicated that the plant organized by the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) in the Plaza de la Constitución is very bad news for 18 thousand commercial establishments of the Historic Center, as well as for all the citizens that will be affected by the marches, protests and closing of roads.

“It is incomprehensible that the leaders of the CNTE have announced on Wednesday afternoon who achieved their petition sheet in agreement with President Claudia Sheinbaum, taking the photo, and then taking the Zocalo and making protests that only punish citizens, affecting trade and social activities, said López Becerra.
“If they achieved agreements, the government should not allow protest tourism that the CNTE is announcing, even more when we have climatological contingency, which forces to avoid public concentrations to full ray of the Sun and generating vehicular traffic,” he claimed.
“To most entrepreneurs and merchants of the Historic Center, as well as the monument to the revolution, these actions of the CNTE remind us of those of 2014 when they left a trail of economic losses, closed businesses and unemployment,” he said.
“We do not want this calamity to join the effects that the commercial sector of the first picture has been dragging for months with irrational closure of roads, an increase in ambulance and falling into sales,” he said.
