Spacex’s huge Starship spacecraft exploded in a dramatic fireball during the TEXAS tests on Wednesday night, the last one of a series of setbacks for the Mars rocket program of billionaire Elon Musk.
The explosion occurred around 23:00 local time while Starship was in a test bench at its Brownsville stellar base, Texas, preparing for its tenth test flight, Spacex reported in a publication on the Musk, X Social Network Network Platform.

The company attributed it to a “serious anomaly” and said that all the staff were safe.
“The preliminary data suggests that a COPV of nitrogen in the Useful Bay failed below its test pressure,” Musk said in an X post, in reference to a nitrogen gas storage unit known as the pressure vessel with compound coating.
“If a deeper investigation confirms that this is what happened, it would be the first time that this happens with this design,” he continued.
Spacex did not immediately respond to an additional comments request.
