The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced on Monday 3.765 million euros ($4 billion) in additional aid to rebuild the Valencia area after the deadliest floods in Spain’s modern history.

More than 220 people died after torrential rains on October 29 caused flash floods that devastated several towns south of the community’s capital, Valencia. The aid is added to the 10.6 billion euros announced last week.

“There are still streets to be cleaned, garages to be drained, many infrastructures to be repaired and, above all, many lives, many homes and many businesses that have to be restored to normality,” Sánchez told reporters after the weekly cabinet meeting.

The package, with 110 measures, expands aid to rental homes and includes a package of 500 million euros to remove mud in the affected area and 200 million euros in aid to farmers.

Sánchez also said that the Government will assign 150 houses or apartments in or near the damaged areas to the affected families and will allocate 25 million euros to the purchase of homes.
