Spain slowly recovers from an unpublished electric blackout that has left the entire peninsular territory without supply, whose causes are still unknown, and that has affected transport services, hospitable and millions of citizens.
In an appearance after presiding over the extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council, the president of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, said he does not rule out “no hypothesis” on the cause of the cut in the electricity supply, which occurred at 12:30 hours and has also affected Portugal and southern France.
The Spanish government works to return electricity to the country’s homes, after initiating the supply from areas of the north and south, although the center of Spain continued off on Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of citizens have taken to the streets to travel long and impromptu roads back home in the face of the collapse of the roads and the interruption of subway services and nearby, without being able to use the browsers of their phones, since communications are falling.
Paralyzed transport
The Spanish electrical system operator, Red Eléctrica, said that this Monday’s blackout is an “absolutely exceptional” incident, due to a very strong oscillation of the power flow, of unknown origin.
After the first moments of bewilderment, when the Spaniards have filled the terraces of the bars and took the radios – pilas – to the street to keep abreast of the flashing information that arrived, many have found themselves stranded in the streets without any means of transport.

Hundreds of people await news at train stations after the Railway Infrastructure Manager Adif announced the suspension of all rail services of all companies. The government has already advanced that the service is probable not to recover until tomorrow.
Between 30,000 and 35,000 people have had to be evacuated from the trains that have been stranded on the tracks as consequences of the blackout.
The meters of the main Spanish cities have also been paralyzed, although in some like Barcelona they are already working to recover them as soon as possible.
The government has reduced air traffic by 20% to guarantee the safety and fluid functioning, while passengers and crews try to reach airports.
Given the problems to circulate with traffic lights and signaling panels off, the authorities have asked the population to avoid displacements as much as possible.
Hospitals without incident and tails in supermarkets
Spanish hospitals maintained the essential services throughout the day, although they had to prevent their ordinary activity to maintain urgent assistance.
With the generators guaranteeing the operation of the intensive care units and essential equipment such as respirators and plants in the dark to save the supply, medical centers have launched contingency plans to deal with the lack of electricity.
Pedro Sánchez stressed his appearance that there are no supply problems in hospitals, although he asked citizens to make responsible use of the mobile phone.
Faced with the relative normality in hospitals, firefighters throughout the country strive to rescue innumerable people who have been trapped in elevators.

While emergency teams work to try to recover normal, hundreds of Spaniards have gathered in supermarkets to pertrech provisions.
The queues in front of the few supermarkets that have remained open have been repeated throughout the Spanish territory, and many establishments have run out of fresh food, water carafes or even roasted chickens.
