Stardew Valley is getting two new marriage candidates in its next major update, and players are already losing their minds. As Stardew Valley‘s anniversary approaches, developer ConcernedApe is preparing its next major update: version 1.7, which will include a new farm type and some new social interactions.
That includes two new romance plotlines for existing characters, a concept which has Stardew Valley fans practically frothing at the mouth.
Stardew Valley’s New Marriage Candidates Are Being Revealed February 26
A big reveal for Stardew’s Anniversary
As of version 1.6, Stardew Valley has 12 marriage candidates. By interacting with them, giving them gifts, and participating in special events with them, you can level up their relationships, and, in the long run, invite them to move in with you and help out around the farm.
Now, version 1.7 is set to add marriage plotlines for two existing characters, but as for who it’ll be, we’re still in the dark. The announcement has already fueled endless speculation, with prominent theories for marriageable characters including, Marnie, Sandy, and The Wizard.
While ConcernedApe has yet to reveal who the new marriage candidates are, he has promised a big reveal on anniversary day, i.e., on February 26 (via IGN). With that date fast approaching, and absolutely nothing confirmed, speculation has run wild.
Gamers Are Already Losing Their Minds Over The Possible Candidates
“Justice for Marnie”
As we await ConcernedApe’s announcement later this week, Stardew Valley fans have gone berserk comparing, contrasting, and arguing the merits of their preferred marriage candidates. While many hoped for simpler, inoffensive options, like the ever-single Sandy or Willy, others got a little more… creative when advocating for their preferences.
One player sent a strong message to the game town carpenter Robin ahead of the update, spelling out “LEAVE HIM” on the beach with torches. This, of course, refers to Robin’s notoriously rocky relationship with husband Demetrius.
Others are hoping that more overlooked characters might get a chance to shine. One Reddit user, bearing a flair that reads, “The Dwarf Deserves Love,” simply comments, “It’s the Dwarf’s time to shine.” The Dwarf is a reclusive NPC who requires you to learn Dwarvish before you can interact with him. Once you do, though, he’s not the most fleshed-out character; he mostly serves as a merchant.
Still others speculated that the new romance candidate might be Clint, which would certainly be a controversial decision. Clint is widely disliked by the fandom, largely due to his jealousy and obsession with marriage candidate Emily. Still, if it was executed right, some players admitted a Clint romance could work: “Clint’s arc better be… 100% about him Rethinking His Life and learning how Not To Be That Guy.”
A few players after my own heart advocated for a Wizard romance in version 1.7. The Wizard wields incredible interdimensional magic, sits at the center of Stardew‘s biggest paternity crisis, and is generally a fascinating character who I’d love to get to know better in the update.
Or, as one player put it, “Let me bang the old magic guy ConcernedApe and my soul is yours,” along with an image of God of War‘s Kratos with his arms outstretched to heaven.
Whatever the case, though, we don’t have to wait long to find out who the new marriage candidates are. With the reveal set for Stardew Valley‘s tenth anniversary on February 26, we’ll know in just a couple of days.
