Steam Drops 4 New Free Games To Kick Off Your Weekend

Like most years, this January has been a slow month for new game releases. The pre-holiday rush is over, and we’re still weeks out from the pace picking back up in the spring. Luckily, there’s never a slow time for new games on Steam, and as an added bonus, you can try out some brand-new indies without opening your wallet.

It’s easy enough to scroll through the free-to-play section on Steam, but there are four brand-new games that have just released within the last 10 days or so. Ablossomreddish, Bubba Yuga, Lost Trust-Episode 1, and Nocturnal Quest: An Idle RPG Adventure are four recent releases that are entirely free-to-play.

Steam Gamers Can Grab These Four Free Games

There are a few important caveats regarding these four new Steam games, the first being the lack of English language support for Ablossomreddish. The fast-paced platformer is entirely in Brazilian Portuguese, so you may have trouble following along if you can’t read the language, but it still may be of interest to anyone who likes speedrun-ready games.

If you plan on checking out Bubba Yuga, be sure to have a controller and a friend handy – it does not support mouse and keyboard controls, and must be played with two people à la recent co-op platformer darling Split Fiction. Chained Together is maybe a more apt comparison, but instead of climbing, Bubba Yuga‘s platforming involves a lot of puzzle solving while you and a partner are tied together.

Lost Trust-Episode 1 takes its retro art style from original PlayStation games, and appears to be the first part of an ongoing story. A first-person linear adventure, Lost Trust has a palpable, hair-raising atmosphere where things aren’t at all what they first appear to be. I’m a particular fan of the promo screenshot above, which seems to take inspiration from David Fincher’s Zodiac.

Finally, Nocturnal Quest is described as being “semi-idle,” a party-based RPG currently in early access. I would be remiss not to note, however, that Nocturnal Quest does include AI-generated content for “some visuals and audio,” so make of that what you will.

There’s Always Something New To Play

It can be tough to find something new to play, but if you’ve got a PC, Steam is a practically endless source of new and free games. Free-to-play indie games can certainly be hit or miss, but there’s really no harm in trying something new. Ablossomreddish, Bubba Yuga, Lost Trust, and Nocturnal Quest are four very different games, and might be just what you’re looking for this weekend.

Large portions of the United States and Canada are bracing for a major winter storm this weekend, and one of these four free titles might help pass the time. You never know when you’ll stumble across your next indie favorite, and Steam has them in spades.
