With major releases such as Resident Evil Requiem heading to Steam in recent days, it is no surprise that some of the platform’s more underrated titles are getting missed. However, in an attempt to shine a light on indie studios and their smaller, yet equally impressive games, the Free Steam Games Twitter account has us covered. In posts recently shared to the page, we have been made aware of eight brand-new games that can be downloaded on Steam for absolutely free. No catch. So if you are on the lookout for some banger indie titles without having to spend a penny, we have you covered.

Steam Gamers Can Grab 8 New Free Games Now

First up are four games which were added to Steam on 2 March, so you cannot get much newer than that. Go Ape Ship! is a frantic co-op multiplayer game for between 1–8 players. As a crew of Astrochimps, it is up to you to master your tasks, respond to emergencies, and unlock new rooms and upgrades for your spaceship all whilst dealing with a myriad of imposing threats. Expect a whole lot of chaos and monkeying around with this one.

However, if you are more of a horror fan, then you will want to check out Selective Memory, a third-person psychological exploration game where you will need to escape an endless loop by reliving fragmented memories. From the idyllic to the mundane or horrific, these memories are your key to escape, but the decision you make may affect more than just the past.

For VR users, Woodlike is a 3D animation title with a warm and whimsical style. Telling the story of a lonely old carpenter, we follow his journey as he befriends an injured woodpecker. You will then be able to explore their bond as they rediscover life together by learning to accept the past, and embrace the present.

On the other hand, Pokémon fans will love the twist on the turn-based genre with Battle For The Raise, a turn-based battle game putting a satirical spin on the corporate world. As you fight your way up the corporate ladder, you will need to defeat your bosses using logic, emotion, data, and sarcasm. Defeating all managers will reward you with a raise, but be aware, the higher you climb, the harder it will get to prove your worth in a competitive environment.

Steam Always Has Something Free To Play

That is not all as there are four more free games to check out, starting with Catjong 3: Purrl of the East. This third installment in the Catjong series will see Mahjong lovers take on over 200 brand-new levels, as well as gain the ability to build serene gardens and temples. Celebrate Eastern culture and train your brain in this free-to-play puzzle game.

Next is Fall With Friends, a physics-driven multiplayer party game where one player must destroy a tower whilst their teammates must do what it takes to stay on top. However, as you dodge the destruction, you may just choose to betray your friends in order to do whatever it takes to survive the fall. Be ready for a whole lot of arguments and backstabbing in this party title.

Competitive Checkers is exactly what it says on the tin. In this real-time strategy title, you will see if you have what it takes to become a checkers champion. With multiplayer rounds, you will go head-to-head with other players in a series of nail-biting games where you will need to analyze the board, anticipate your opponent’s moves, and most importantly, win.

Last, but by no means least, is League of Mahjong, yet another puzzle title inspired by one of the world’s most popular tile games. In this 3D collection, you will come up against instant matchmaking, fair mechanics, and hundreds of custom avatars to choose from as you play 5-minute rounds on tables across the world.

All of these titles and thousands more are now free to play for PC gamers courtesy of Steam. So, if you are ever stuck on what to play next or want to save a bit of money whilst waiting for the next major release, you know where to go.
