Stellantis decided to postpone the production of the Dodge Charger Daytona R/T, an electric vehicle that was planned to be manufactured this year at the company’s plant in Windsor (Canada), for the tariffs imposed by the US to the automobile sector.

The automobile group said that the decision has been made while the manufacturer values “the effects of US tariff policies”, according to a statement in which it did not indicate how long the suspension will last.

Stellantis had initially planned that the vehicle, a version of the Dodge Charger, began to be produced at the end of this year.

The decision will not be a cut of the employment levels at the assembly plant that Stellantis has in the border town of Windsor, located in front of Detroit (EU), and that uses some 4,500 people.

Stellantis has already suspended production in Windsor for two weeks

Canada’s minister of industry, Mélanie Joly, declared Thursday that the measure “is obviously linked to US tariffs.”

“We will continue to fight for Canadian jobs, to create new positions and grow the Canadian economy,” he said.

Joly reported that he has spoken with Stellantis CEO who has assured him “that all Stellantis’s jobs will be protected and all working conditions will remain unchanged.”

“We agreed that we would continue the conversations positively with respect to investments in electric vehicles (VE) in Canada,” he added.

In April, Stellantis already suspended for two weeks the production in Windsor for tariffs. And at the beginning of May, the company stopped production for a week for the work to adapt the plant to the manufacture of new models.
