The Mayor’s Office of Benito Juárez, in Mexico City, reported this Friday the death of a 60-year-old man during the evacuation of the 6.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred at 7:58 local time (13:58 GMT) in the country.
“During the evacuation due to the earthquake that occurred this morning, the man vacated his apartment on the second floor, stumbled and lost consciousness,” the authorities reported in a statement.
They also stated that after the accident, which occurred in said area, the building’s security personnel requested emergency services, so a unit from the Regulatory Center for Medical Emergencies (CRUM) went to the scene.
“The paramedics carried out the corresponding checks and reported that the person no longer had vital signs,” the document reported after noting that the case was taken by the corresponding authorities without disclosing the identity of the victim.
This morning’s earthquake had its epicenter off the coast of the state of Guerrero, but its effects were detected in several cities in the country, including Mexico City, although no material damage has yet been reported.

According to the National Seismological Service (SSN), the earthquake was considered “severe” and advised that monitoring is being maintained in the areas where it was perceived.
The head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, reported that after activating the action protocol for the earthquake, there is a report at the moment of “12 injured people; the fall of 5 poles and 4 trees; as well as 18 complaints due to lack of electricity supply in different neighborhoods (neighborhoods).”
Likewise, he said that two structures are being evaluated for risk of collapse, and 34 buildings and five houses are being inspected preventively.
Electrical service restored after earthquake
Meanwhile, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported that after the earthquake it activated its Emergency Assistance System to verify the operational status of the electrical infrastructure.
“At 10:30 a.m. (4:30 p.m. GMT), 75.93% of affected users in the states of Guerrero, Mexico City and the State of Mexico have been restored. No damage has been identified to the infrastructure of the CFE generating plants,” the agency noted.
He specified that 354 electrical workers, 79 cranes, and 138 vehicles were available to attend to the event. Inspections and work continue to recover 100% of affected users.
