Super Mario Galaxy Movie Quietly Reveals How THAT Character Can Be The Main Villain

Although it’s not been outright confirmed, but all signs thus far point to Bowser Jr. being the main villain of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. From the looks of things, he will rescue his father from captivity and set in motion Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad’s adventure into outer space.

But while Bowser Jr. taking this course after the events of The Super Mario Bros. Movie does indeed make sense, it’s still surprising that Bowser Jr. will be formidable enough to justify the character taking up the role of the principal antagonist. After all, he’s traditionally regarded as less dangerous than the true Koopa King, Bowser.

However, a recent reveal from the marketing may shed light on Bowser Jr.’s role in the story.

It Looks Like The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Will Introduce Fury Bowser Jr.

Fury Bowser Jr in Super Mario Galaxy Movie

In the new “Level Up” trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Bowser Jr. is shown sporting menacing new design that heavily favors black, and also removes the pupils from his eyes. His look here is clearly inspired by Fury Bowser from the 2021 Nintendo Switch game, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.

In Bowser’s Fury, the Koopa King enters the Fury Bowser form after getting tainted by a black substance known in the game as “splotchy goop.” As Fury Bowser, he possesses even greater powers than the traditional version, not to mention an increase in size. Being considerably tougher than his normal state, he forces a team-up between Mario and Bowser Jr.

As it stands, this power-up is unique to Bowser in the Super Mario franchise, but it looks like The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is about to introduce a Fury form for Bowser’s son. If he achieves a similar power level, that could be more than enough to explain how the film intends to elevate him to the role of Mario and Luigi’s primary threat.

While Bowser Jr. can be resourceful, on his own he may not be powerful enough to deliver an intense climax, especially not with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, and now Yoshi and Rosalina all in play. But as Fury Bowser Jr., he could have additional tools at his disposal, plus some much-needed raw power.

As for how that power-up will be obtained, it’s possible that the “splotchy goop” from Bowser’s Fury will be reimagined as some sort of resource that Bowser or his son discovered and then contained. Theoretically, Bowser Jr. could unleash it later, just in time to set up an epic final battle to end The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
